The SPFL may have been out of action since March, but behind the scenes at Celtic Park, there has been plenty of activity at community level. Celtic Soccer Academy, the branch of the club which deals with local community coaching and international club partnerships, have had a particularly busy schedule.

Throughout lockdown they have been delivering an online training programme to their partner clubs across the globe, which spans across the Americas, Europe & Australia. Now that the 10 week programme is complete, they have generously offered it to grassroots clubs across Scotland free of charge.

Senior International Soccer Academy Manager Chris Smith said: “It’s been a tough time for everybody in grassroots football at home and abroad. Our coaching team has been able to digitise our coaching content to help keep our international partner clubs active, with really positive feedback. We are keen to give as many young players in Scotland access to it too, to help coaches deliver their online sessions and prepare their players for the phased return.”

The content includes a programme with eight training exercises within six different categories. Beginning with the ‘Celtic Turns’ section, video demonstrations are made available as young players attempt to emulate skills by Johnstone, Nakamura, Petrov and Forrest. This is followed by further sections on Control, Passing & Receiving, Dribbling, Finishing and Goalkeeping.
